There’s something really special about photographing people you’ve known for years. When a friend reaches out and asks you to document such a meaningful moment in life, it feels less like work and more like being invited into a memory while it’s happening. This maternity session was exactly that.

We wandered through a beautiful little creek surrounded by lush green ferns before ending the evening on the beach with the ocean stretching endlessly in front us. Vancouver Island really knows how to show off sometimes.
The whole session felt calm, playful, and effortless. I knew going into this shoot that it was going to be relaxed and fun because that’s just who she is. Genuine moments, laughter, and the quiet excitement of waiting for someone you already love deeply before you’ve even met them. She intentionally waited until the very end of her pregnancy to book her maternity photos because she wanted her baby bump to be as big and beautiful as possible and I absolutely loved that choice.
There’s something so incredible about the final weeks of pregnancy. The anticipation. The softness. The strength. The way a woman carries both power and tenderness at the same time. I actually haven’t photographed a maternity session in quite a while, and this shoot reminded me how much I love them. There’s a different kind of energy to maternity photography. Slower. Softer. More grounded. And honestly, pregnant women are just STUUUUUUNING!. There is something undeniably beautiful about a woman creating another human being. The curves, the glow, the emotion...and we know how much I love photography being more than just taking pretty photos. . These two made that incredibly easy.
Between the creekside ferns, barefoot beach moments, and all the laughter in between, this session felt like documenting a chapter instead of simply taking photos. I totally believe that photography is a tool to help us document our life and this is a huge moment to commemorate! The kind of chapter that years from now will feel blurry and fast in their memory but now they’ll have something tangible to hold onto.
And that is one of my favourite parts.
If you’re dreaming of a maternity session that feels more like an experience than a photoshoot , wandering beaches, forest trails, barefoot moments, wind in your hair, and genuine connection, I would love to create something beautiful with you.
