There’s something a little magical about firsts. Not just the big, obvious milestones—but the quiet, personal ones. The ones where a woman steps into a version of herself she hasn’t quite met yet. This session was exactly that. She had never had portraits taken before. Not like this. Not where she was the focus, the muse, the story. And yet, from the very beginning, there was this spark in her, open & curious. The kind of energy that makes you lean in a little closer as a photographer, because you know something beautiful is about to unfold. We met near Witty’s Lagoon, just off the path where most people pass by without ever noticing what’s tucked away. A small stream, a soft waterfall, towering trees, and ferns so lush they feel almost otherworldly. And it was perfect.
There’s a vulnerability that comes with stepping in front of the camera for the first time especially in a boudoir setting. But what I loved watching was how quickly that shifted. How she moved from a little unsure… to grounded… to fully owning her space. That’s the heart of what I call Sensual Nature Portraiture. It’s not about posing perfectly. It’s about feeling. It’s about letting your body exist in the landscape, not separate from it. And she did that so effortlessly.
We played with a few different looks—soft lingerie tucked into the greens and shadows...
Her fiancé’s white dress shirt catching the light in the most effortless way...
And of course, my signature white sheet. Each one brought out a different layer of her. Sweet, playful, bold, quietly powerful.
And then there was the water!
Cold. Like, Vancouver Island stream cold!
But she didn’t hesitate. She climbed over fallen trees, steadied herself on mossy rocks, and stepped right in, laughing, a little breathless, completely in the moment. That willingness to lean into the experience is what creates those “you can feel it” images. The kind that aren’t just seen, they’re felt.
By the end of our time together, she wasn’t the same woman who had arrived. She was more relaxed. More certain. More connected to herself in a way that’s hard to explain but easy to recognize. That’s the shift I’m always hoping for. Not just “you look beautiful”—because of course you do. But “you feel powerful.” And that stays with you long after the session ends.

If you’ve been curious about stepping into something like this… consider this your sign. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to know how to pose. You just need a willingness to show up as you are...and maybe a little bravery to step into the water. I’ll guide you through the rest.
