Moving to Victoria was a whirlwind! I was sad to leave behind family and amazing friends but excited for a new experience. I was born in Alberta and while I had done a little bit of travelling actually moving someplace else was a little scary too!
I was really starting to find my niche and my groove in my photography life there and leaving that was sad also. After visiting Victoria a few times before moving here I knew that it was going to inspire me and provide so many exciting opportunities for me. The Island has not disappointed!
Vancouver Island is so very different from the prairies, forrest and mountains of Alberta. The lush rain forrest and beautiful coastal seascapes have been extremely inspiring!
We spent some time when we first arrived exploring the area on hikes, beach walks and long drives along the coast. I kept a mental note (and phone snaps) of areas that were calling me to photograph them!
I couldn't wait long and placed a model call within a month of being here and began planning my first shoot. While on a walk I couldn't help but feel like this location was calling for a red haired maiden. I had picture in my mind of a face and the crazy part is that as I was sorting through photo applications there she was! She was exactly the face I saw in my vision of the shoot!

I then had a random post come into my Facebook feed. A local theatre right in my neighbourhood holds an annual costume sale to clear out their storage. It is a wonderful event that I have attended two years in a row now. It functions as a fundraiser for a local charity as well so it is a win all around!
My first year I purchased a few items...some that I have not yet even photographed! My wardrobe collection grows. This next session was inspired by the pretty vintage dress I bought at the sale at the Langham Court Theatre Costume Sale. I could only picture a dark haired little beauty in this off white dress. The location was found after a neighbour told us about a nearby hidden staircase to do some working out! How do these little ones pose so naturally?

I still had my focus on youth and was now needing to have the ocean in a shoot! All I could picture in my mind were big tulle skirts. As I was thinking about this I saw a post from a mom about her two daughters that had gotten into modelling. I connected with her, sewed some skirts and got to planning. This location is Cattle Point in Oak Bay, BC. It has quickly become one of my favourite nearby locations because it offers beautiful ocean views and versatile surrounding areas.

My final shoot for my fresh start in Victoria included some older models. I was able to find a networking group of like minded creatives that has been a great source of collaboration and inspiration. I was on a walk around the downtown area and came across this historical spot; Waddington Alley. I partnered up with an amazingly talented hair stylist for some incredible hair as well as a couple of great makeup artists. The Hair and Makeup were very important to completing the styling for this session! Again my love of tulle and accessories is obvious!
